Louisa Adams First Spouse Gold Coins
The 2008 Louisa Adams
coin
is the sixth issue of the First Spouse Gold Coin Program to honor the
First Ladies of the United States. The obverse of the coin, designed by Susan Gamble and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, features a portrait of the First Lady. The reverse of the coin, designed and sculpted by Joseph Menna, depicts a younger Louisa Adams and her son Charles making a journey across Europe in order to rejoin husband and father in Paris.
Coins were released on May 29, 2008 and limited to a maximum authorized mintage of 40,000. By the end of sales, the US Mint sold a combined 11,677 across uncirculated and proof options.
