Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coin
Beginning the fifth year of release for the series was the 2011 Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coin. She was the First Lady of our nation during the 17th Presidency. Her husband President Andrew Johnson was in office from 1865 to 1869.The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Eliza Johnson, while the reverse of the coin represents her love of children. A scene from her husband's 60th birthday party is presented, with three children dancing and a Marine Band fiddler playing.
The design for the obverse was by Joel Iskowitz, while the reverse was by Gary Whitely.
Sales of the Eliza Johnson First Spouse Gold Coins began on May 5, 2011, following a slight delay. The maximum mintage across proof and uncirculated versions has been set at 15,000 units.
