Florence Harding First Spouse Gold Coin

The first release of the year 2014 for the First Spouse Gold Coin Program honored Florence Harding. She served as First Lady from 1921 to 1923 during the Presidential term of her husband Warren G. Harding.

Following the typical format of the series, the obverse design of the coin featured a portrait of Florence Harding as designed by Thomas Cleveland. The reverse contained a more stylized design representing some of the First Lady's accomplishments and distinctions. The initials WWV represent her role in championing World War I veterans, a camera represents her orchestration of photo opportunities for her husband, and a ballot box represents her distinction as being the first First Lady to cast a vote for a presidential candidate.

Sales for the Florence Harding First Spouse Gold Coins opened on July 10, 2014. A maximum mintage of 10,000 pieces was established across proof and uncirculated versions.
