Julia Grant First Spouse Gold Coin
The 2011 Julia Grant First Spouse Gold Coin honors the spouse of the 18th President of the United States of America. After gaining recognition as the commander of the Union Armies during the Civil War, Ulysses S. Grant served two terms from 1869 to 1877.The obverse of the Julia Grant gold coin features a portrait of the First Lady, along with the required inscriptions. This was designed by Donna Weaver. The reverse of the coin, designed by Richard Masters, features a scene of a young Julia Dent and her future husband Ulysses S. Grant riding horseback at the White Haven plantation.
The United States Mint began sale of the coin on June 23, 2011. The maximum mintage established across the proof and uncirculated versions of the coin was 15,000 units.
