Lou Hoover First Spouse Gold Coin

Lou Hoover had served as the First Lady of the United States from 1929 to 1933 during the Presidency of her husband Herbert Hoover. Under the First Spouse Gold Coin Program, a one-half ounce 24 karat gold coin was issued in her honor.

The obverse design featured a portrait of Mrs. Hoover designed by Susan Gamble. The inscriptions indicated the order of the Presidency, the dates served, her name, and the required mottoes.

The reverse design of the coin by Richard Masters carried a depiction of a 1920's style radio. This was intended to represent Mrs. Hoover's distinction of being the first First Lady to make a public radio address.

Sales for the Lou Hoover First Spouse Gold Coins opened on August 14, 2014. Proof and uncirculated versions were available with a maximum mintage of 10,000 pieces.
