The 2010 Mary Todd Lincoln Gold Coin
honors one of the most recognized First Ladies of the United States. She carried the title from 1861 to 1865, during the Presidency of her husband Abraham Lincoln. The obverse, designed by Phebe Hemphill, features a portrait of the Mary Todd Lincoln. On the reverse is a scene of her bringing flowers and books to wounded Union soldiers. This was designed by Joel Iskowitz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill.
Expecting higher sales for the Mary Todd Lincoln Gold Coin, the US Mint established a maximum mintage of 20,000 units across proof and uncirculated versions. Sales officially began on December 2, 2010. The uncirculated version of the coin sold out early, while sales of the proof version continued.
