3 June 2009 - 8:30Letitia Tyler First Spouse Coin Delayed

Quite unceremoniously, the United States Mint has delayed the release of the next coin of the First Spouse Gold Coin series. The Letitia Tyler First Spouse Coin had previously been scheduled for release on June 4, 2009. The US Mint recently changed the date listed on their product schedule to July 1, 2009.

Meanwhile, the current offerings of First Spouse Gold Coins continue to be listed for sale at the United States Mint. The four coins for sale are those featuring Louisa Adams, Andrew Jackson’s Liberty, Martin Van Buren’s Liberty, and Anna Harrison. The Louisa Adams First Spouse Coin has actually been on sale for greater than one year at this point.

This year the US Mint needs to issue five First Spouse Coins instead of the usual four, due to the fact that John Tyler had a first and second wife. Despite the increased number of coins, the US Mint is now falling behind the schedule set last year. Towards the end of the year they will need to start issuing coins in more frequent successsion to catch up.
